Reviews Waterman Phileas Solid Black Medium Point Fountain Pen

Reviews Waterman Phileas Solid Black Medium Point Fountain Pen

I love my Waterman Phileas Solid Black Medium Point Fountain Pen. It was a bit hesitant at first because of the price and unknown quality of the workmanship and ease of use. But not to fear, this is a wonderful writing instrument. The pen itself is heavy and masculine, made for a larger hand.

A pump action ink converter, you can use to fill ink directly from a bottle. I filled mine with artist's India ink. I have been doing this for over thirty years, and have not had a bit of trouble with my fountain pens. I like a rich black pen stroke, it's not the washed out non-permanent ink sold for most fountain pen. As an artist, that is what suits my style. If you wish to try this, please use an India ink containing ammonia. That prevents clogging.

And I carry it with me everywhere in my bag or pocket. The barrel and cap are scuffed, but still look pretty good after several years of hard use - no chips or cracks, and the gold is still shiny.

I also use my pen for sketching, as well as writing. It's smooth and performs with facility straight from the box. No breaking in of the point to adjust to one's handwriting style. A full five stars for the folks at Waterman. It is a pleasure to own and use Waterman Phileas Solid Black Medium Point Fountain Pen.

Reviews Lamy Safari Fountain Pen Charcoal - Fine

Reviews Lamy Safari Fountain Pen Charcoal - Fine

# Sometime I find some humor in the fact that this Lamy Safari Fountain Pen - Charcoal - Fine  is so best rated, yet most reviewers take care to point out that it is not the prettiest, most overpriced, or fanciest pen around. Unlike many company, Lamy make pens and pencils. They do not use pretentious euphemisms for pen like those other companies, nor do they charge 10x-100x what pen is worth. They do make some pens like the Safari, which are indestructible and feel good in my hand, and they make some incredibly smooth nibs.
Lamy Safari Fountain Pen does make a some starter fountain pen, but it is a starter pen that will last you your entire life. I recommend a Fine if you are new to a fountain pen. You can even buy spare nibs for the Lamy Safari so that you can swap between different sizes.

# First, let me say! I love fountain pens. All types, but especially Shaeffers. A colleague of mine turned me on to Lamy pens and they have become my workhorses.

I teach English so I grade many, many papers and I refuse to write with a boring pen. I used to use my antique shaeffers until a student almost dropped one. I had to have a daily pen that was, well, near disposable. I remembered the Lamy and ordered a Safari. Now, if something happens to it, I don't have a stroke. Plus, the broad nib has a wonderful ink flow.

I give them as gifts. They are a good pen to start using as they are very forgiving.

Do they write as well as my older pens? Nope. Are they more user friendly?
